Sign-in from Anywhere

Open Athens allows you to authenticate your login credentials anywhere on the internet with an Open Athens sign-in. This means that if you have found an article during a Google search, your access can be authenticated at the vendor's website. You will need to locate the sign-in area if you do not go through the TMC Library website.

Every vendor site is unique, but the Sign In or Login option often appears in the top right corner of the screen.

Here we will demonstrate what you need to do to get to the Open Athens sign in prompt. These images are from the vendor Elsevier:

When you click the Sign In link, you will select your institution.

Type in your institution name (Texas Medical Center Library). The system will auto-fill with the correct choice (see below). Press continue.

Confirm your institution.

Click Open Athens at the bottom of choices and sign in via your institution.

Split Open Athens Log in Screen for EBSCO databases

When trying to access resources from an EBSCO database (CINAHL, etc.), you will see a split screen for the login choice.  The left side is used for logging in with generic OpenAthens credentials.

The right hand side with "Find your organisation" will allow Single Sign On users to use their institutional credentials.  To use SSO credentials, search for "Texas Medical Center Library":

If you do not see the screen above, skip to the "Choose how to sign in" screenshot below.

Upon clicking on "Texas Medical Center Library" as an organization, the menu drop down page will appear:

OpenAthens: Choose how to sign in

Choose your institution. Please note that Baylor College of Medicine, UT Health and MD Anderson users do not need to register for Open Athens. The system will use your institutional login to authenticate your access.
