The Texas Medical Center is home to several schools of nursing, and the Texas Medical Center Library is a major resource for the students in the various programs. Nursing students are one of our top user groups, and we aim to provide any assistance needed to these future health care providers.
This guide gives information on accessing the TMC Library's databases, journals, and books that can be helpful to the nursing student. Remember that this is just a snapshot of resources, and that you can always contact us to ask for any guidance for your information needs.
The TMC Library is transitioning from print to online journals and books.
The TMC Library has many databases that provide online books and journals. You'll need to log in with your HCC email and password to access eBooks. If we don't have a book or article you need, fill out an interlibrary loan request and we'll try to find another library who will lend us the book for you. (You'll need a TMC library card number to submit an ILL request). This is a free service for HCC Coleman staff and students.
PubMed: the largest index of medical literature with citations to over 5,000 journals. It includes all fields, not just nursing. The citations link to full-text in our other databases, where available.
CINAHL: the most comprehensive index for nursing and allied health journals. It gives you full-text articles from nursing journals and also evidence-based Care Sheets, Quick Lessons, and Continuing Education Units.
